Dr. Vargas is a Research Scientist at the Center for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine at the Miriam Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown Medical School. She earned her doctoral degree at University of Miami and completed postdoctoral training at Brown University.
Dr. Vargas applies mixed (qualitative and quantitative) and community-based participatory research methods to the development of assessment tools and interventions. Her research focuses on sexual and reproductive health behaviors in military and civilian populations, as well as quality of life among individuals with chronic illness. Additionally, Dr. Vargas collaborates with several colleagues at Brown and Lifespan, leveraging her mixed methods expertise to lead process evaluation efforts and conduct the collection and analysis of mixed methods data.
